ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to investigate the causes, effects and remedies to roof failure in Owerri West L.G.A Imo State. Specifically, the study aims to find out the causes of roof failure in Owerri West local government area, assess the effects of roof failure in Owerri West local government area and determine the remedies of roof failure in Owerri West local government area. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 141 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analyzed, the findings revealed that the causes of roof failure in Owerri West local government area includes: Deterioration and water intrusion, Changes in roof drainage, Improper structural modifications to roof trusses and Inherent design errors. the findings of the study also revealed that the effects of roof failure in Owerri West local government area includes: they can cause water damage, devastating impact on the walls, Affect structure of a home and costly repairs that may be needed to put things right. Finally, the findings of the study revealed that the remedies of roof failure in Owerri West local government area includes: Regularly Inspect Your Roof, Epoxy Foam Grout, Non-Shrink Cement Grout and Roofing maintenance. The study thereby recommend that regular building maintenance function Building maintenance functions should be a must activity and the utmost priority to curb down and prevent any degree of roof failure. Also, regular visual inspection. Regular visual inspection helps in identifying developing roof problems at its early stage making it much easier to solve them to prevent complete roof failure. Finally, regular roof maintenance: Periodic roof maintenance is necessary for every roof structure , tear and worn out roof members should be replaced to ensure a health roof system to increase it life span and prevents its failure .
